In 1984 a friend talked me into taking a Wilton Correspondence Course on cake decorating with her. It was a lot of fun but it didn't help me learn to make roses and do decorating very well. The following spring I took a year of commercial decorating at a technical college. At this point I was making and decorating just for fun. I also took some specialized classes in Minnesota- one on air brushing and one for special techniques. These classes were taken in St. Louis Park at Maid of Scandinavia.

In September of 1985 I made my first wedding cake for a friend. It was both challenging and rewarding. At that time my house had an extra bedroom so I contacted the state department that handles bakery licensing and found out what I needed to do to turn this room into a cake shop. At that time I was working full time and making cakes in my spare time. My mother and my Aunt would bake while I was at work and I would take care of everything else from getting things ready for baking to icing and decorating cakes after work. As the business started to grow, my husband and I took out another bedroom and turned that room into more baking and decorating space.

On May 7, 1997 I quit my full time job that I had for nineteen years to just do my cakes. It was really scary but well worth it. Last year we did 150 weddings and about 300 other types of cakes for all sort of occassions. We are now in process of building a separate building for the business. This way I can handle my clients in a more professional manner keeping my home separate from the business. I am hoping I can expand my services and products, which now include a complete line of wedding invitations and some cake tops; but after we get our new shop open I plan on having a larger area for displays and cake tops as well as more room for other baked things such as cookies and some candies.

I do a lot of wedding cakes, but I also do a lot of cakes for area businesses for retirements, anniversaries, special functions where they need a cake. What makes me a little different is I try to provide a quick service. Although having a week ahead to plan my baking is nice, a lot of companies don't think of planning ahead so I try and cater to their needs. We providing them with a cake that is never frozen and not only tastes good, but looks the good. I also use a very good tasting buttercream icing.

I've added edible photo art as another option which is good for most occasions where you would like someones photo on a cake. The photo art can also be done on the cookies for childrens birthday parties, bridal showers, rehersal dinners, etc.
